Overtime Work

The other day I wrote that the summer holidays are short in Japan .
Besides the Japanese also work many hours of overtime..
I can’t show the average amount of time spent working because the research doesn’t contain unpaid work.
The amount of time spent working overtime work is decreasing but it is still too long.

I have thought about the reasons why Japanese work for so many long hours.

・If your boss stays at the office, you can’t go home even if you don’t have any work to do.
・If you do not work a lot of overtime, you may not be respected as a resourceful staff member.
・Many people including me have to obey their company because they can’t change their job easily.
・The customers ask their contractor for excessive of conclusion. So workers need to work harder.
・There are many unfruitful jobs because of a totally inefficient method.

Most of these things seem like a tiny things.

On the other hand, there are many unemployed people.
I wish the workers would give their jobs to other people.

I live in Kawagoe-city Saitama-prefecture Japan. There are many traditional warehouses in Kawagoe. So many Japanese and the people from overseas come to sightseeing. http://www.koedo.or.jp/foreign/english/index.html

  1. You know, your explanations are quite universal as the same happens in other places too and especially in this current economic climate.
You are also right that if anyone objects, they should kindly give their job up for anther person. We have 14+ million unemployed in the US and treating one’s job with respect, even reverence is not such a bad idea. 🙂
    Have a blessed week ahead!

    1. 14 million unemployed people are very large number.
We have 3 million unemployed people in Japan. I hope the universal problem will solve peacefully.

  2. Thank you for sharing your insights with us. In some ways, has been the role model of business productivity. But, then if overtime numbers are not included in research data – that shows less productivity.

The situation that you describe is also a reason why so man people in the United States decide to go into business for themselves. The long hours don’t go away, but their is satisfaction in to being more in control of your schedule.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

    1. Thank you for your comment. The Japanese situation seems to be similar to US. If the worker love their job, they don’t mind the overwork. The otherwise may be not good. 🙂

  3. I do agree that excessive overtime does not constitute to more productivity. Less, I say because why work faster and efficiently than have nothing to do when you still need to stay in the office till late at night.

Excessive time at work would make a parent be away from his/her family and spend precious time with them.

    1. Spending precious time with family is the most important thought.
However, this thought hasn’t been common yet. Every one knows it, but they often do the opposite thing.
I get home as early as possible.
