Karuta of Proverbs

My family and I enjoy playing these karuta.
You can learn old Japanese proverbs from it.

This karuta says, “You hide your head while you show your bottom.”
It means that you can’t hide all crimes if you hide one of them.

This karuta says, “You prefer food over flowers”
It means that you prefer actual benefits to appearances.

This karuta says, “If you like something, your skill in it will improve,” (What one likes, one will do best)
That’s true.

Have a wonderful day!

  1. I should try to play this with children’s cards! ^^ I’ve tried the adult version, but I can’t read all the kanji.

“You hide your head while you show your bottom.” I love this proverb!

  2. Another awesome activity you shared to us, and which I always love seeing from your blog.
The last one I like the most. A great message that everyone NEEDS to FIND their true passion in order to be successful, no matter how long it takes them.

  3. These proverbs are amazing – and all of them are so true!

I used to play karuta every week with the kids at an after-school club in Osaka! Good memories :)
