Visiting Shirine

Almost all of us visit a Shirine or temple on New Year’s day even if we aren’t devout Buddist

There was so looong queue in the place because we need to pray our happiness this year

First, we washed our hands to purify our hands before we pray to god

We clap and bow slightly two times in the front of the Shinto shelf

After we prayed, we put our old charms in that boxes

We also picked fortune slips. Fortunately, both of my daughters got great good fortune (大吉)

Then we bought new charms in the Shirine
It’s said that it saves our home and us

They are called “Ema” used for the boards which you write what you pray
For example, “Please let me pass the exam for university” “I want to marry with someone.” etc

We hope that we’ll be happy this year

  1. Look at those beautiful trees! I wouldn’t mind standing in a long line between those trees!

The shrines and temples in the shitamachi are packed with huge crowds. I think it will remain very busy till Friday, when many people return to work.

I’ve already wished you a Happy New Year, but what the heck, let’s do it again! Have a lekker 2013! ^^

  2. What a great way to start the year! Glad to reconnect with you this year and many thanks for the blog support.
