Kawagoe Festival
I visited the Kawagoe Festival with my daughters who wanted to go last weekends when I came back from abroad.
This year, all 29 floats were running around in the town because this year was 90th anniversary of the municipality of Kawagoe.
Even if I visit this festival every year, I thought that the festival was very impressive. I guess that foreign people are interested in the festival a lot.
The fox is my daughters’ favorite during the festival.
There is also a lion.
I have never seen such black mask.
Tease pumpkins are decorated for the festival.
The dog was also enjoying the festival. We could hardly move in the crowd.
The sunset of that day was special.
The float at night was also beautiful, wasn’t it?
The festival continued for all two days.

This is the post about the Kawagoe Festival last year.

The floats were beautiful, especially the one in the evening light! I wish we had more events like this in Poland, we don’t like to celebrate much I guess.
Thank you! I hope that people in Poland will like the festival and have the event.
一番下のお写真を見ると、山車がとても大きいのがよくわかります。一つ一つに歴史やいわれがあるのでしょうね。不思議な黒いマスク、一体誰なんでしょう??山車を覆っている金襴の布がとても美しいです。
keiko
Lovely float and I like those pumpkin faces too.
Thank you. The pumpkin was so cute.
今年第90回なんですか?!
すごいですね!
犬くんでも?(笑)
市制90年を記念しての一大行事です。祭りとしては360年の歴史があるので300回以上やってます。。
昔から犬も見ていたと思います。。:)
What a wonderful festival. I love your pictures of all the action going on too.
Thanks. All the actions were unique.
The floats are beautiful like moving art museums. The fox, your daughter’s favorite, looks a little scary to me. Local people’s enthusiasm must be a driving force to this fabulous time-honored festival. Those pumpkins are as charming as the Halloween pumpkins. Thanks for sharing.
Yoko
Thanks a lot. Moving museum is really true. We saw a lot of traditional culture in all the town.
cool festival! the pumpkins remind me of Halloween! Love the pic with the dog … he looks like he’s having fun!
Thanks! Both the pumpkins and the dog are so cute.
I’m interested in Festivals both international and local. Wait! How do you look whether it’s lion or fox or something else?
Thanks. Various kinds of fox, lions and others appear from the floats in turn. Looking them is fun.
home again!

of course they try to organize in Amsterdam some festivals too
Thanks for the link. I can imagine the festival in Holland.
I like the pumpkin faces
Thanks a lot.
Must have been really nice to spend a day at the festival with your daughters! Especially because you were in Europe for quite a while so they must have missed you a lot!!
Anyway, the dog that’s also enjoying the festival is really cute… I wish I had such dog as well
Of course, we enjoyed the festival.
My daughters also want to have a pet but it’s not easy to have a pet at home.
It looks bright and colourful and a lot of fun. It’s good that you arrived home in time to see it
Thank you. I was lucky to visit the festival. Next year, we’ll visit the festival again.
Dear Masa! How lovely to see this colourful, fascinating and happy festival in your area! What a great tradition. You must be so happy to be able to take your family out again! Thank you for the wonderful pictures! Sharon
Hi Sharon, thank you for the comment.
It was really fun to see our culture again and to see my daughters’ smile.
Fascinating festival, Cocomino! Very colorful and interesting.
The dog in your 6th photo reminds me of Hachiko.
Thanks. Certainly, the dog is like Hachiko who is the most famous dog.
Your daughter’s fox is my favourite too!
I originally planned to go to the festival this year, but just didn’t have the time. So I’m very glad I could enjoy it in this post! I must admit, I’m also grateful I didn’t have to experience those crowds! Phew!
There was really crowded but I recommend that you’ll visit the festival next year. The fox is very interesting.
Such big floats, they must be heavy, just like the dog being carried by its owner. Your pumpkins are lighter in color than those in the U.S. Does Japan celebrate Halloween?
The floats are very big, indeed.
I think that those pumpkin aren’t common. The color is darker.
We like Halloween although it’s not common to cerebrate it in Japan.
Festivals in Japan are a great experience and we are lucky to have so many of them. The floats at night are also spectacular with all the lights.
That’s good because you also have festivals. The autumn is best for night festival because it’s not too hot or too cold.
i love Kawagoe Festival! i was there last year and reading your post about this year’s celebration reminds how happy i was seeing the giant floats and the costumes
Thanks! Glad to hear that you also love the festival and you have already visited
The floats were so large that everyone wants to ride on them.
Look like so much fun…the floats are amazing, thanks for sharing
Thank you! We enjoyed a lot.
So many colors out here and the enthusiasm can be sensed by your beautiful pictures! Loved the fox, the pumpkin faces and the floats at night… I would so love to attend this one some day
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure. I’m glad to hear that you also like the fox and the pumpkin.
It was very fun to attend the event even if we go there every year.
Beautiful indeed, sir!
90 years is quite a landmark! Here’s to the next 90 – and beyond!
Thanks a lot. That’s very nice to keep the festival well.
A very historic festival indeed — and so interesting to look at all the figures, the costumes. I too especially like the fox —
(Do you think it is really a beautiful lady? I guess it’s more usual in stories that a fox can appear as a beautiful lady, but is still really a fox!)
Thanks. I remembered the old tale which a lady became a fox although I forgot the detail.
Maybe so because there are some old tales not only in Japan but also the other countries.
Very colorful and it seems having a lots of fun!
Yes, it was really colorful and beautiful. Thanks.
I am coming back to Japan for my 6th visit next year, and plan to stay near Urawa. Now I have discovered your bob, I might need to fit Kawagoe into the itinerary!
Of couse, that should have read “Blog” not “bob” ! !
Thank you for stopping by. Urawa is near to Kawagoe. You should come Kawagoe Festival.
What an exciting, fun and colorful festival. The fox, the lion and the pumpkins made me feel like I was in a magical adventure land. What an amazing festival it is.
Thank you. I like various festivals all over the world.
I’ve attended the Kawagoe festival in 2008. It was quite spectacular and I enjoyed it very much. I also really love the typical festival food.
Thank you for stopping by and glad to know that you attended the festival.
My family and I love the food.
