Riding on the Ferry
This is a free ferry to go to the northern part of Amsterdam.
Bikes, bicycles and people can ride on the ferry together because they are very important for going to somewhere in Holland.
It takes around 10 minutes to arrive at the opposite shore.
It’s intersting that people ride on the ferry every day.
Most Dutch ride on the fore on the ferry because they sound hasty for their job or school.
As for tourists, it’s a good ferry to see the beautiful sea and city.
In addition, there is also a large ferry which you can bring your cars in the northern part of the Netherlands. Every vehicle can ride on the ferry.

there are so mnay bikes in holland. I can’t ride a bike very well
Indeed. The bike in Holland was so large for me that it wasn’t easy to ride it.
The ferry makes it is easy to go to different places and the cost is free
Yes, it’s very useful and cheap to ride it.
I started grinning when I saw the Dutch signs. Bromfiets! (^0^) That’s the Dutch word for scooter, and in Afrikaans we call in “bromponie”. It means a pony that’s growling or murmuring (唸る、 呟く). Nice description, isn’t it?
People are dressed quite warmly in your photos. Is it quite cold already in Holland?
PS: I’m enjoying these posts so much!
It’s very interesting. I also heard that many Dutch words are similar to other languages like English, Latin and so on.
Yes, it’s cold and windy here, especially near to the sea. Thanks.
Love riding on ferries! We have one here that crosses the bay and has some magnificent views
Thanks! It’s fun to ride a ferry and see magnificent views.
I’d love to live in a city where you had to take a ferry. Is there a sheltered part of it, in case it is raining?
Yes, I think so because it’s often rainy days in Holland. In addition, it’s often windy.
Such a large ferry and free! It is hard to get anything for free these days. It looks like some impatient bicyclists do not even get off their bikes during the ferry ride.
Dutch have made large ferries since the past and has large ports.
That’s the reason that they prospered as key junctions of trade.
Amsterdam is one of the European cities that I like very much… nice walking streets, nice street food…
Thank you so much. I agree with the cities, streets but I’m not sure that Dutch food is good.
I love riding on ferries! I’m hoping to take the ferry from Yokosuka to Futtsu in Chiba in the next year or so.
That’s a nice plan. It must be fun to take the ferry. Fishes are very delicious.
I dated a Dutchman for a few years and he and his relatives (all living in the states) were VERY TALL!! Supposedly as a nationality they are the tallest people in the world? Have you noticed excessive height there? (I’m only 5’2″ so am probably the other end of the spectrum! LOL)
Of course, I noticed it. It’s not easy to ride the bicycle in Holland. They are very large.
It’s good to have the ferries and bicycles to get around. Some of the cities in the UK have ferries – London and Liverpool for example.
That’s also good in UK. We also have Japanese style ferry. You can eat dish and drink something like beer in it.
I’m amused by the sign:
“(Brom-)fietsers afstappen
Motoren afzetten!”
= motor-bikers and bicycle-riders have to dismount!
switch off the motors!”
I think so. It’s very interesting.
テムズ川では無料なフェリーもあるんですよ。
でも朝8時から夜8時まで渡しています。
そうなんですか。それは、いいですね。景色もきれいそうですし。。
That ferry boat trip looks awesome. i love riding on ferries too. The views are gorgeous. What a great way to spend part of a beautiful day and best of all it’s free of charge.
Thank you. Yes, free of charge is nice to enjoy the view for tourists.
I also like riding on ferries.
Cool! I’ve enjoyed ferry rides. I’ve been on ferries in the Seattle, Washington USA area..
Thank you! Oh, that’s also nice that you can enjoy the ferries in the US.
I get seasick almost every time on boat trip >u<
My children may be same. It’s scary for them.
A free ferry is great!
And what a way to experience the city too.
Thanks. Ferry is a good way to see the town.
How cool the “free” ferries are! I wonder if there are any like that in Japan. A few ferry companies got out of business because of bad policy of “free highway”, which didn’t last long. “Tako Ferry” of the Akashi strait is one of them. Bicycle is a good way for commuting. Are there lanes for the bicycles only?
I saw old posts from Netherland. It’s such a beautiful country!
Yoko
Thanks. I think that we also should have such free ferries.
Yes, there are many lanes for the bicycles and the bikes lanes in Holland. So they can ride it very fast.
I remember the feey in Mozambique…it was so full I thought it would sink!!!
Ferry!!!
I see. It’s scary if it sinks. I understand it was ferry.
Love the blues in these shots. It looks as if you are having good weather.
Thanks a lot. The blue is very nice. Good weather is a few but I enjoy it.
My wife and I have been on a similar Ferry a few times (the S.S. Badger)…
it crosses Lake Michigan (from the state of Wisconsin to the state of Michigan).
I see. It’s interesting to know that there are some kinds of ferries. Thanks!
That is one fun ride with an amazing view.
Indeed. Riding the ferry is very enjoyable.
We took a different kind of boat ride not the ferry…
That’s good. The boat is also fun to ride.
Looks like a lot of fun!
Indeed, thanks!
