What is This Wood Box?
This is located in the center of Helsinki. I couldn’t imagine what this this was at first.
It is like an mortar bowl.
The wall surface is made of wood.
You can see the sunlight coming through the top right.
The answer is a new church in Helsinki. The architect seemed to try out a new plan instead of a traditional church. I think that it’s an interesting design challenge.

Interesting idea, although I think they’d want some windows in it. At least some light comes in through the ceiling.

Yes, I think so. Of course, it’s warm thanks to the air conditioner.
I wonder what music sounds like in this building. It looks as if the acoustics would either be amazing or appalling!

What an interesting church! I can imagine it would be quite a challenge to reinvent a space like this (without drawing on all the building tradition, etc. that typically influences those who design structures like this)… fascinating!

After I’d looked at all the photos and got to the conclusion I had to go back again to reconcile the idea of a church with the building. My conclusion- why not?
