Akateeminen Book Store in Helsinki
This book store was planned by Alvar Aalto.
It’s a perfect place for me because I like both books and architecture.
There are also Japnese books
The void is interesting and you feel good sunlight from the top.
There is also an Alva Aart cafe in the store.
Many Japanese come to this book store because the Japanese movie, called Kamome Shokudou(かもめ食堂), was popular in Japan.
The movie shows this store, Nuuksio National Park, good cafe and so on.
This space was same to the cinema’s world.

Is very nice!
Thank you!
I LOVE books!! I would have fallen in love with this place. It looks like heaven to me! I wish I could visit =)
Thanks a lot. It’s a nice place to choose books and drink a coffee.
I can never resist visiting a bookshop and this one looks great.
Thanks! The architecture is so cool that it’s a good place to relax.
That is one cool looking bookshop. Would love to visit this one
Thanks. I enjoyed a lot in this bookshop. I wish that you could visit the shop.
Wow, what a bookshop. It is more like a library.
Thanks. I think so. It’s an interesting space.
The architecture is amazing!
Thank you so much!
I’m in love!
It’s such a beautiful store! Did you buy many books?
Thank you. I didn’t buy any books but just looking. That’s why I have to go to the Netherlands next week.
WOW! I would love too dear Cocomino… Wonderful. Thank you, love, nia
Thank you. Have a wonderful day, nia.
So bright and spacious – it would be easy to spend hours there!
I think so. It’s a good space to spend many hours. Thanks.
Wow great posts. Helsinki seems like a great place. I liked your posts on slot machines too.
Thank you so much. Slot machines are good system for elderly people, I think. Actually, that’s my job to research them.
What a great place. One could spend hours in there browsing!
Thank you. I think so. It’s an interesting place to spend hours.
I like to visit bookstores. This one has big space and light. I hope you enjoyed Finland.
Thanks a lot. As you said, I enjoyed a lot in Finland and looking forward to visiting the Netherlands.
I love bookstores! Although libraries are probably safer places for me to visit, since I have a very difficult time going to a bookstore without buying something!
I see. My family and I often go to libraries and borrow many books. However, we can read new books only at bookstores. That’s a dilemma.
Love this bookstore..Moscow had a brilliant book shop called KNIGI Dom which is home of books and just so big!!
I see. It’s interesting. Thanks for sharing.
That’s quite a nice bookstore!
I like the Kinokuniya bookstore I went to in Osaka. My friend was helping me find good Kanji learning books and children’s books to practice reading. But I was still fascinated by all the different books in the store even if I couldn’t read them. I could spend hours there.
Thank you so much. I understand that. It’s nice to spend hours at bookstore. We can learn and imagine a lot through books even if we can’t read them. As you know, Kinokuniya is one of large bookstores in Japan.
Very nice architecture and lots of books. It is hard to find a bookstore locally anymore. Everyone seems to buy online.
Thanks! Certainly, local bookstores are decreasing now. What a shame.
I love that place, could spend hours there just looking though all the nice books they have!! But at first the shop seems a bit too big, and it takes a long time to find what you’re looking for.. But just for passing time, it’s a great way for sure
I see. I may have met with you at that shop. The shop was really interesting for me.
Yup, it’s possible! I visit it quite often, especially when I should look for school books.. They also have a nice collection of foreign books that cannot be found at other bookstores, which is great in my opinion
Your opinion is true.
Hi Masa, may I correct the name of the architect: he was Mr Alvar Aalto.
Nice pictures again!
Oh, thank you. I corrected the spell. Please correct my sentence again, if you notice. This blog is my study of English. Glad that you read this.
I love this bookstore ^^ They even have books in Russian, but it’s a lot cheaper in Moscow, so I have to resist them
I see. I didn’t notice Russian books. It’s interesting. Most prices in Finland are similar to Japan..
It trully looks great and high-tech! When it come to books and book stores i prefer more traditional architecture and atmosphere….
Thanks a lot. I thinks so.Traditional architecture makes me relax and calm.
Dear Masa, it is indeed interesting to see Finland through your eyes and what captures your interest. I have been to Academic Bookstore so many times and yet I believe I never studied the fascinating architecture like you did!! I will be sure to be more observant when I go there the next time
Sharon
Thank you. It’s nice that you can go the bookstore easily and see the detail and drink a coffee at the cafe.
Otherwise, if you come to Japan, you find a lot of things which I didn’t notice.
This is a wonderful space. I think I could spend hours at the bookstore!
Me, too. Thank you for commenting a lot.
It reminds me of the large bookstore I went to in Tokyo… can’t remember the name.
Oh, certainly, there is a similar bookstore in TOkyo.
