Fortress of Suomenlinna
This place seems to be most famous for its fortress.
This places is a small island and still many walls for defense remain.
Historically, it sometimes belonged to Sweden and sometimes belonged to Russia.
It depended on which side was making the canons.
There are also various styles of walls and buildings on the island according to the structures’ age.
Now the isdland becomes a popular sight touring spot which includes cafes, shops, restaurants and museums for displaying exhibits such as military wepons and toys.
In addition, about 850 people still live in the island.
I’m sure that you feel as if you slip back in time.

I love your pictures from Finland. I really want to go and just travel around for a while there. It’s a very gorgeous place and reminds me a bit of my hometown in Canada, except with a European feel to it.
Many thanks! I like Finland so much because there are many interesting architecture and town.
I hope that you’ll go to Finland.
What a grand fortress with an amazing view. Great post!
Thanks a lot. There were many points which I can see great views.
Some very nice photos – looks like it was a lovely day!
“depends on which side makes the cannons” – very true!
Thanks a lot. When I heard it, I understood it well.
It’s actually four islands there: Pikku-Musta, Länsi-Musta and more popular amidst tourists Iso Mustasaari and Susisaari. Their names mean Little Black, West Black, Big Black Island and Wolf Island
I see. Thanks for sharing. Wolf island is interesting.
The shape of island is also interesting.
You are getting to visit some interesting places during your business trip and this is no exception.
Thank you. It’s my pleasure. You may think that I don’t work here.
The walls and buildings are very interesting.
I think so. Many thanks.
Oh, this post makes me want to visit Suomenlinna soooo much!! I’ve never visited it, even if I’ve lived in Helsinki for a while already… Well, maybe next summer when it’s warm again, because I suppose it’s very windy there !
What a shame. Suomenlinna is worth to visit and easy to go the isdland, you know. Certainly, it’s often windy around the sea.
Yup, many people seem to like the place a lot
It’s such a shame that I haven’t been there yet!
Haha. You can go to the island when you like.
Great views of this fortress. I like the variety of texture and color of the building in the first photo.
Thanks a lot. There are various kinds of buildings and walls according to the age.
I spotted another green curtain! ^^
It feels strange to see so many buildings made of stone. I’m not used to that anymore. It’s beautiful, though!
Thank you. Since there aren’t many earthquakes in Finland, they can build stone buildings. It’s hard to build them in Japan.
This has wonderful photo’s. I enjoyed viewing the reflection of the small house in the
last photo. Very nice ….
Thank you. I also like them. It’s a beautiful island.
Another really interesting place to visit in Finland. I like seeing old forts like this as we have one down on the Mornington Peninsula in Australia but its not this pretty.
Thank you so much. It’s good that you also have another one. The fortress is so nice that you can imagine old days.
Different place, different culture, different structure! Even though they were fortresses, for me, red brick buildings are so romantic and chic!! They remind me of the former Tokyo Station.
keiko
Thank you. Certainly, there were red brick buildings in Tokyo and some of them still remain That’s nostalgic and have good quality.
What an interesting place to visit.
Thank you! I enjoyed it.
a lovely fortress with such amazing views.
Thanks a lot. It was really great view.
It looks like an interesting place. Great photos too!
Thank you so much.
‘I’m sure that you feel as if you slip back in time.’
I can see why you say that, sir… I feel the very same way after looking at your wonderful photographs!
Thanks a lot. Glad to know that you feel it in same way. It was really nice place to visit.
How interesting! I have never heard of this place. It must be a very large island to have so many people who want to live in the past.
Thanks much. It’s a large island but you can walk most of the area for a day. Of course, there are hotels in the island.
Very interesting site… the canon is kinda scary.
Yes, the canon is so scary.
Sorry I meant canal but I’m glad you got my point.
Oops forget that last comment… yes, it’s the canon not the canal. Oy vey!
