Sauna in Finland
The sauna is very important for the Finnish.
It originated in Finland and was used as a holy place for birth.
It is said that one third Finish has their own sauna at their home. The apartment which I’m staying at now also has a nice sauna. It’s easy to use it because I just turn on the switch and wait untill the temperature rises. It is a really comfortable and warm feeling to sit in a sauna.
This is an electric coal powered sauna.
This is a pot for the water used for the coal to create a mist.
After entering a sauna, the Finnish sometimes drink a water and sometimes drink alcohol.

Wow, sauna!! That’s awesome… I’m glad you liked trying sauna
Remember not to drink or eat heavily before or after sauna, it’s veeery unhealthy!!
Thanks for your advice. It’s same when we take hot spa(onsen) in Japan.
Oh really?? Then you don’t need my advice :p I thought onsen would be a bit different, because it’s hot water instead of hot air!
Of course, it’s a bit different but I like both of them and keep your advice.
I am very happy that You presented Finnish Sauna. I think that many people do not know it. I love Your post very much and Your photos are great. Thank You.
Maybe You wanna see my
Finnish Sauna
post also.
This post has two Saunas. First: Sauna on wheels and second our Sauna and how we use it.
Happy blogging!
My pleasure. It’s very fun to know something new, especially about other countries.
Whenever I stay in hotel with sauna, I would always make it a point to try it… it is so nice….
Thanks. Yes, it’s so nice, indeed. I like a sauna.
I love a good sauna along with a soak in a good onsen. Very good for your health
I also think that it’s good for health because we break a sweat.
Thanks a lot.
What is best – sauna or onsen?
It’s a difficult question. I can’t choose them. You know, most traditional Japanese ryokan have a nice onsen.
The best = 露天風呂 in the snow! No contest.
Haha, maybe so.
Of course you have to do sauna when in Finland. Enjoy! A nice post, Cocomino.
Thank you. I heard that there is also a sauna in Norway.
A great way to relax and rejuvenate. Perfect to take out stress. Great post.
Thanks much. It was a good and unique experience for me.
We like sauna too.
That’s good. There must be a nice sauna in your place.
I have never tried a sauna…
many people have told me they really enjoy them, though.
It’s a good sauna than you expected. I’m sure that you’ll like it.
I’m glad you enjoyed Finnish sauna!
Alas, I don’t like sauna at all, it’s too hot
Thank you! This sauna can control the temperature till you can take a sauna.
Anything beyond +20 is too hot for me
I see. I wish that you also tried onsen(hot spa).
Wow – I’m surprised that so many homes there have a sauna.
Yes, I was also surprised. It’s a unique culture.
Learned much about the Finnish culture from your posts, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. It’s good to share various things.
Ah yes – the Finns love their sauna – even more than the Swedes do.
I see. It’s nice that you also have sauna. It’s warm and make us relax.
enjoy the sauna! I often did, when I was younger. Do you have them in Japan too?
Thats’s good. There are a few saunas in Japan. We’re lucky if we find it in Japan.
How nice to experience a sauna!
We have a small sauna in our house, lined with cedar. The cedar smells good. There is a pile of rocks, heated electrically and we keep a pot of water for creating the mist. I usually take drinking water in with me, and occasionally a cocktail. I guess that makes me sort of like the Finnish.
That’s so good. It’s very interesting to have a sauna at home. You don’t need to go somewhere to find a sauna and the cedar’s smell must be nice.
I enjoy sauna whenever I go to a spa. IIt is supposed to clear the body of toxins. I always feel envigorated afterwards. I wish I could be Finnish and have one in my home, too.
Well done ….
Thanks. I wish so. It’s a nice experience to take a sauna and drink a water.
I have been reading your blog for a while. I was surprised to find out that you had visited Finland because it’s my home country. I like sauna very much, I go there at the end of every week. Some people go to sauna even more often. You know, Finnish people who live in an apartment buildings and they don’t have their own sauna in the apartment, usually there is still a shared sauna built in that kind of houses. People pay only a little bit of money so they can go there and they usually take turns on Saturday and Sunday. So everyone can go to sauna if they wish!
I hope you can continue keeping this awesome blog
Thank you for stopping by and sharing. I’m glad that you whose home country is Finland, have been reading my diary. I like Finland because they are friendly and kindly. Of course, a sauna is one of good culture in Finland.
I’ll keep it up till I finish writing my posts .
How convenient to take a sauna whenever you like! I would like to stay at such an apartment. It is interesting how the Finnish live. Do you like saunas or an onsen better?
Thanks a lot. It’s a difficult question. I often take onsen but a sauna is rare for me.
So the sauna is exciting now.
Wonderful… I’d love to sit and rest a while.
I would like to sit it again.
