Summer Trip 05: Playing in a River

One of the most popular activities in the summer is playing in water.
In rural mountains, people swim in a river instead of the sea.
Aside from swimming, there are other ways of playing which we enjoyed in Nagano prefecture.

One of them is to build a dam with small stones. It’s very simple, but children and adults were keen on building a great dam. If you can stop a flow of water from a water well, you’ll be an architectural engineer.

The other one is to catch rainbow trout with your bare hands in a small river.
(Of course, the fishes were set free by the staff. )

It’s me.

I was surprised that my eldest daughter was able to catch them without any hesitation.

After catching them, the staff fried them and we ate them quickly.

We also enjoyed finding toys in a river and standing under the waterfall.
That’s fun, isn’t it?

  1. That clear water looks very refreshing on a hot day! The fish must taste good from that clear water. Your daughter is talented catching a fish with her bare hands. I used to fish with my mother all the time when I was a kid. She could outfish the men in my family – but she also got a lot of practice honing her skill. We caught many trout together through the years and they were tasty. Your daughters will have many good memories like this to look back on when they grow up.
