Gathering Garlic

Fortunately I could gather a lot of garlic in my garden just like last year.

First, I like frying them with butter and soy sauce.
They become really soft and fluffy.

Second, I pack some of them in a plastic bag and freeze them in the fridge. The garlic will last me about a year. I won’t need to buy garlic at a grocery store.

Third, I use them for making pickles.
The left jar is filled with vinegar and the right one is filled with miso.Last year I added soy sauce in a jar. I’ll be able to eat them in over three months.
Can’t wait to eat them.

Anyway I can eat them only on Fridays and Saturdays, because I usually don’t meet people except my family then. The smell is so powerful. That is the only problem.

  1. now i know how to preserve it right. i usually only put it unpeeled in the kitchen and peel some only when i need it. but, after a few days, leaves start coming out from it. it’s like i have a tiny jungle in my kitchen. thanks for sharing :)

  2. Your last paragraph made me laugh. I love garlic almost as much as I love chocolate (but not together!), but you have to be careful when you eat it. Only eat it when you’re completely alone, or else make sure your companions share it! :)

  3. You’ve made me want to have a go at growing garlic. It’s wonderful to have your own supply and not to have to buy it. Garlic is tasty but very strong. It is also said to be very good for us.

  4. I love garlic and we love too… and I always have in my kitchen… but especially the fresh garlic is amazing… How smells nice… You are doing great job with them. And also so admirable to have planted them in your garden. I wished too. Thank you dear Cocomino, love, nia

    • ええ。とてもおいしいですよ。ちょっと食べ過ぎて、お腹の調子が悪くなりましたけど。:(
      にんにくのフライとか唐揚げもきっとおいしいはずです。

  5. Looks like you had a great harvest. I love garlic and used to have a garlic farm — over 5,000 plants! Thanks for the interesting ideas of using them. I’ll have to try it. :)

  6. It’s great you grow your own garlic! I love garlic, and our family has grown garlic ever since I can remember. They produce large flavorful bulbs – yummy. I’ll have to try it with the butter and soy sauce, like you do. We use garlic almost daily in various dishes, but my favorite way to prepare them is to cut the top off, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt&pepper and then roast them in the oven. This makes a good spread for meats, fish, etc. We plant garlic in the Fall and they are ready to harvest in the summer. (Also, I understand that eating a couple of raw garlic cloves every day is a good natural antibiotic. It’s too strong for me to eat it that way, though.)

    • Thank you for sharing. The way what you said is so nice that I need to try it.
It’s interesting to know that many people all the world love garlic although the smell and the taste are often strong. :)

  7. Hi Cocomino
Have you tried my last year’s suggestion on cooking garlic (raw, squashed with a bit of water/oil/cream/other sauces)?
As far as I’m concerned I avoid freezing garlic because they change colors and get too soft to be able to be use it as mentioned before.

    • Oh, sorry for that. I haven’t tried it yet. I understand what you said about freezing.
So, I freeze the some of them and I pickle or cooking them by other ways.
      Thanks for reminding me it.
