The Collection of Warehouse in Kawagoe
As you have already know, there are many old warehouses in Kawagoe.
Most of them are used for shops, museums and others, even now.
Today, I’ll show some of them.
This is a dango (rice dampling) shop. My daughters bought and ate the dango.
This is a sweet shop. There are sweet potatoes damplings. Sweet potatoes are specialty products.
This is a wall scroll shop.
This is a sausage and meat shop. You can see the cute pigs.
This is a barber shop. The revoling light is a sign of the shop.
This building was built in 1792. It’s really valuable.
You can enter the room and enjoy the old culture.
Each houses are a bit different from others.

They are so beautiful… I love Japanese houses, buildings… I loved them all too. Especially this blue pigs… amazing. And also I love Japanese language in written way they seem so beautiful too… There is actually great artistic image in them… Thank you so much dear Cocomino, have a nice weekend, love, nia
My pleasure. Certainly, the blue pigs are so cute and the sausage of this shop is really delicious. Have a great weekend.
What beautiful structure, each different but with so much detail. Love the pictures.
Many thanks. The architects must have thought about the detail carefully.
cute blue pigs!
I think so. Thanks!
I love the Japanese architecture of these old buildings. They have much character. “Warehouses” here, usually look like big boring box buildings.
I see. It’s not easy to find the correct word for this old building in English. We just say, 蔵(kura) in Japanese. This may be an original building.
Very interesting buildings. It is fun to see them. The pigs are cute
Thank you so much. I’m glad to hear that.
Beautiful buildings! And the pigs are definitely the highlight of this series.
Thanks. Certainly, the pigs are unique design compared to the other buildings.
What a beautiful and interesting collection of buildings – and usages. We also have the revolving blue, red and white barber shop signs in the UK.
It’s interesting to hear that the sign is same in the UK.The sign is very old. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Cocomino
Thank you for another incursion in the history of Japanese architecture. Those buildings are absolutely gorgeous.
Have a great week end!
Thanks a lot. I’m happy to hear that. Have a great weekend, too.
I love Japanese architecture, both modern steel&glass type buildings and the old traditional ones.
Thanks. Certainly, there are both buildings in Japan. The contrast is interesting.
I love these old buildings. They’re extra atmospheric in the rain. ^^
Thank you so much. It’s a unique and interesting place to take photos and buy souvenir.
Kawagoe is a must see spot in Kanto and is very famous around Japan for its beautifuly preserved buildings. Thanks for sharing some great pictures of them
Japan Australia
Thank you so much. We’re proud of the town. If many people visit the town, we’ll preserve these buildings for many years.
You are so lucky to still have such small, traditional shops, Cocomino. Over here there are almost only supermarkets, and they all look the same and have the same boring things. If I was a tourist I would really love to see such shops!
Thanks a lot. Actually, this area is limited and the other places aren’t interesting.
So, it’s important to preserve this area and share them a lot.
I love the old buildings and the fact that they are still used till today!
Thanks much. I’m lucky to visit this area easily and buy interesting things.
This is a wonderful visit to Kawagoe in the rain. It makes me feel that I know your town a little bit, and it also makes me very natsukashii —
Indeed, it’s natshukasii(nostalgic?) In the past, these towns had been common among us.
Very charming place. It is good to see all the old buildings are being used for something. Each one is uniquely decorated like the ice cream cones at the front of the store. Over here, old buildings are either torn down or abandoned.
Thank you for sharing. You can buy and eat the vanilla ice cream and sweet potato ice cream. Both of them are yummy.
Those buildings are so beautiful! How old are they?
They were built around 1900. So they are already 100 years old.
What a charming street Kawagoe has! At a glance, the houses look almost the same but to see them carefully, they are all different – that’s why I feel the sense of totality there. The rain seems to have good effect on photography, I especially like the last one.
Thanks a lot. There is a Kawagoe rule for building these shops. So everyone knows it and preserve the street well.Unfortunately, it was raining but I tried to take some photos with my kids.
Looks like you have quite a bit of rain in Japan too! The buildings are beautiful, they make the street look so charming.
During June, we have a lot of rain every year. Thank you for your nice comment. It’s a beautiful street.
no FATHER’s DAY today in JAPAN?
Nevertheless, your daughters have a very active father!
It was a Father’s Day in Japan. I enjoyed a lot.
Great pictures of the old warehouses in Kawagoe, the rain seems to have made them cleaner and sharper. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. You must have visited this main street, 一番街. If it’s a sunny day, many people walk around there.
Yes, while living in Tokyo, I visited Kawagoe twice and this main street and both times were quite crowded.
I see. There is a plan which this street will be one-way traffic because of a safety.
You’ve got a very cool line-up of buildings there! The streets look so clean, too~ A new part fo town?
This part is very old and the facade still keeps good.
On the other hand, there are many modern buildings around the station.
Such fascinating buildings! I love how they all go together so well, yet each one is unique in it’s character and details! If the stores looked like that around here I’d be much more excited about shopping!
Thank you so much. As you say, we are excited to buy something at these shops.
The buildings are very important for shopping.
Am so glad all those old buildings are preserved, they are national treasures.
Thanks much. I hope that this beautiful scenery will keep in the future.
Thanks for taking us to visit different kind of warehouses!
I like the sausage and meat warehouse!
I also like it. The sausage of the shop is very delicious.
Thanks for a lovely tour of the shops!
Many thanks. That’s encouraging.
Lovely! Next time I’m in Japan I will go visit this place.
Thanks a lot. Kawagoe is a nice place to walk around.
They have so much character!
Many thanks! They have own character.
