The Chime of the Time / 時の鐘
This is a symbol of Kawwagoe city called, “The chime of the time.”
It was built around 1630 but it burnt down a few times due to big fire.
This building was rebuilt in 1893.
Even now, it announces the hour four times a day.
In the place, there is also old temple which can give blessings such as health, luck and good fortune.
The building is about 16 meters high and you can easily find it because the buildings around it are low.
People living there are still hearing the sound while remembering the old days.
Most tourists visiting Kawagoe go to the building and hear the sound.
You can hear the sound with this video.

Wow, such an interesting symbol…. I love seeing old buildings and this one is so old, it’s great to learn how Kawagoe preserved and rebuilt this…
Thank you so much. As you said, people in Kawagoe preserved old buildings like this. It attracts many people from other areas.
What a wonderful connection to the past – brought to life through the sounds and sights on the video.
Thanks. Yes, the sound has remain since the old days. It’s awesome.
That’s a nice clock tower.
Many thanks. We remind the time from the clock.
Really, really interesting historical significance! It has a great presence!
Thank you so much. It’s preserved carefully and liked by everyone.
“The chime of the time.” I remember this I mean I read or heard. But I haven’t known the whole story. This is so beautiful and interesting. Thank you dear Cocomino, I enjoyed to listen too. Love, nia
Thank you. I think that the name is nice. Have a great day.
Thanks for the sound tour!
Thanks much. Glad to know that you enjoyed.
The chime is very nice.
Thanks a lot. It’s a realy nice chime.
I love the name “chime of time”. Thanks for the video! I’ve been there a few times, but I never heard the bell. Now I know what it sounds like! ^^
I think so. The sound sounds same to the sound of temple. They are common.
I like preservation of the old buildings. I assume the bell is done manually. This means the person who is ringing it can never be late.
That’s true. The person must be well-organized.
What a fabulous building!
Thanks much.
On the second picture, is that a real person sitting on the bench?
Yes, she is a real person. She was just taking a rest.
What a beautiful structure – and with so much history, too!
I really enjoyed listening to the bell, too. I liked how there is a bit of time in between each chime… it makes the whole thing seem much more peaceful to me, somehow… almost calming. Very nice!
Thank you so much. Glad to hear that. The chime has seen a long history in Kawagoe and tells us correct time with calm.
What a wonderful old building and thanks for including the video.
You’re welcome. The chime is cool to see.
I love clock towers! In Europe, you can hear all the churches chiming in the morning on Sunday, and I always thought it sounded so neat. In Canada, not very many places do that.
Thanks a lot. I would like to hear it. It must be nice.
brave bell!
Thanks a lot.
So much history and tradition. I love it.
Indeed. Thanks much.
