This is a symbol of Kawwagoe city called, “The chime of the time.”
It was built around 1630 but it burnt down a few times due to big fire.
This building was rebuilt in 1893.
Even now, it announces the hour four times a day.

In the place, there is also old temple which can give blessings such as health, luck and good fortune.

The building is about 16 meters high and you can easily find it because the buildings around it are low.

People living there are still hearing the sound while remembering the old days.

Most tourists visiting Kawagoe go to the building and hear the sound.

  1. Wow, such an interesting symbol…. I love seeing old buildings and this one is so old, it’s great to learn how Kawagoe preserved and rebuilt this…

  2. “The chime of the time.” I remember this I mean I read or heard. But I haven’t known the whole story. This is so beautiful and interesting. Thank you dear Cocomino, I enjoyed to listen too. Love, nia

  4. What a beautiful structure – and with so much history, too!
I really enjoyed listening to the bell, too. I liked how there is a bit of time in between each chime… it makes the whole thing seem much more peaceful to me, somehow… almost calming. Very nice! :)

  5. I love clock towers! In Europe, you can hear all the churches chiming in the morning on Sunday, and I always thought it sounded so neat. In Canada, not very many places do that. :)
