Korean Food

Korean food and dramas are popular in Japan.
I’m not interested in the dramas but I like buying Korean food. Most foods are made of garlic, red pepper and sesame oil. So they are a bit hot.

The Kimchi is the most popular among them, as you know. Of course, it’s delicious to eat it straight. But I fry it with pork. It’s called “Pork with Kimuch” 豚キムチ

This is Korean laver which is more salty and contains sesame oil.
It’s good to put it on rice.

There is Korean beer. I found it recently at the import shop. It’s cheaper than the Japanese ones but the taste is different. It depends on whether you like it or not.

This is “Samjan” in Korean for frying beef and vegetables such as lettuces, Korean lettuces and cucumbers.

These foods give us good appetite.

Luckily, I can buy them easily at most super markets.

Have you ever eaten Korean food?

  1. i have eaten at a korean restaurant once, when i lived in houston. i especially enjoyed all of the pickles and other odds and ends served alongside the main dish!

  2. Your pictures are making me hungry, Cocomino! I love Korean food. There is an excellent Korean restaurant very close to my home here in San Francisco that I visit a lot. I love the bold flavors and the many beef choices. I especially like kimchee … I LOVE spicy food! I would like to try that Korean beer.

  3. Yes, I like Korean food, but not the spicy foods. I can’t tolerate kimchee because of the spiciness. (I love tsukemono, though. My grandma used to make a lot of this when I was a kid!)
Is the laver a seaweed? If it is, I have found the same thing here (at Costco) that is a little salty and contains sesame oil and perilla oil. I do like it with rice. I also like the korean barbecue and make my version at home. I have not tried the beer.

    • I see. Of course there are people who don’t like spice food.
The laver seaweed sounds same to ours. It goes well with rice well.
Korean barbecue ( it may be “Yakiniku” ) is my favorite. :)

  4. I’m not totally sure whether I’ve eaten Korean food or not but I like spicy food and will look out for it in a supermarket. I’d like to try the beer :-)

  5. I haven’t tasted dear Cocomino… But I can’t eat very hot foods… But they seem so nice, Thank you dear Cocomino, have a nice weekend, love, nia

  6. I love kimchi and I even pickle it myself, but I’ve never tried to fry it with meat. I only ate it as a sidedish or added to soups, must try it! I also like Korean salted laver, but never tasted Korean beer.
There is a good shop with mainly Korean and some Japanese foods close to where I live and I often do shopping there.

  7. The part of Osaka where my friend lives is called Koreatown. She loves kimchi. We had Korean barbecue in Osaka long ago, but a few years ago in New Jersey we also had the kind where you cook it at the table and I LOVED it. Where I live now, though, it’s not really possible to get good Korean food. Too bad!

    • As you say, there are some Koreantown in Osaka, Tokyo and other local cities. I visited some of them and the almost all the korean barbecue were really nice. They are popular among us.

  8. I’ve heard that yakiniku has Korean origins. If that’s true, then yakiniku is the only Korean food I like. The rest is too spicy for me. PS: Korean beer? Now that’s something I’d like to try! ;)

  9. >新しい建物と古い建物がまじってますね。東京みたいです。

    そうですね。でも東京と比べたら、ロンドンでは新しい建物はもっと少ないと思います。

  10. My son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter lived in Seoul for three years (actually,my granddaughter was born there and lived there only about two years! Ha!) and often blogged about having kimchi! As they have many Asian friends in metro Atlanta,GA where they now make their home, they still eat many Korean style dishes. I am hungry from your photos, Coco!

  11. I have never tried Korean food before (although it looks very good)!
My father was in Korea for a while when he was drafted into the Army, though…
he used to tell me stories about Kimchi… :)

  12. I laughed at your first line, because korean food and dramas are super popular here too..but i only eat the food : ) I didn’t know korean seaweed is more salty–is it just as popular as japanese seaweed then?

    • そうですね。いろいろ美味しいものがありますから選ぶのに困ってしまいますね。
      東京ですと、大久保とかいろんなところに韓国料理の店が集まっているところがあります。。
