Do you know shogi which is a Japanese chess-like board game for two players?
If you can capture the other player’s king piece, you win. The rules are simple but there are tons of moves in shougi.
If you a great shougi player, you can become a professorial like Habu who was called genius.

When I was a child, I often played it with my friends. Recently it’s said that people don’t play it as much as before.Perhaps children tend to play video games.

However, my wife bought this shogi set for my daughters last year. It’s not a standard one, but one made for beginners.

Each piece shows how it moves so beginners can easily learn how to play..
Shogi must help improve the ability to think logically.

I wish that my daughters would win against me someday.

  2. I heard before but to be honest I haven’t any idea about this Shogi… Your photographs are so lovely and made me to play :) to learn… of course. Should be great fun. Thank you so much. Have a nice and enjoyable weekend, with my love, nia

    • そうなんです。
      実は、私は囲碁をやったことがないです。おもしろそうなので、今度、子どもと挑戦してみようと思います。オセロはやってます。

  3. Looks like an intersting game. Unfortunately board games are no longer played tooo often by children. Instead they are now sitting in front of the tv or the computer.

  4. Wonderful to learn about shogi–and that there is a beginner’s set for children! My son can beat the pants off me at chess! My 4.5 year old granddaughter beats the pants off her very smart, brainy mother at that online math game, Angry Birds!

  5. I know that the girl in one of my Japanese school classes has some achievements during shogi tournaments, she’s really a pro. I’m sure this game improves brain capabilities and logical thinking.
